Social Skills Activities
Funded Aug 19, 2021My classroom at John H Taggart School in Philadelphia is very grateful for your generous donation to our classroom and our desire to expand our social skills. This school year has been like none other. Our students have struggled to interact with one another in social settings as much of their early learning and development was during the pandemic these last two years.
The materials that we received through our Social Skills Project that you helped us receive have been especially beneficial to our students during these times. We have been able to use the "Little Spot" and "Ninja Life Hacks" books to help explain different scenarios to the students, and ways to handle those scenarios in social situations.
The social skills of the students in my classroom are still a work in progress, but we are slowly making progress towards appropriate interactions with one another as well as ways to handle their emotions appropriately.
Thank you again for your generosity! It is truly appreciated!”

Funded Oct 5, 2020Thank you for your generous support of my classroom and my students. These resources have been amazing for learning center time and independent work for my students. Our class has been virtual so far this school year, but I was able to distribute the materials amongst my students so that they can work on their skills in the home setting. This allows my students time away from the screen. For some of my students, excessive screen time for academic tasks is a trigger for behaviors. Having hands-on materials in their homes has allowed the students to get away from the screen, but still be working academically.
With social distancing and precautions in place, I dropped off the materials to students' houses in bags. As a result, I was not able to see the students' faces when they saw the materials, but parents have told me how excited their child was to receive materials similar to those that they would use in the classroom. I have seen progress that students have made through working with these materials.
Soon, we will be back in the classroom. I am excited for all the materials to be used within the classroom. These learning centers will allow my students to have more independence in the classroom as they work on mastering and maintaining skills. I look forward to seeing their faces as they see even more materials that our classroom has gained.
Thank you again for your support!”
