Incorporating the time and lessons for my students to grow and develop a love of reading is my inspiration for this project. Allowing each student to feel like their voice matters and reading life matters to me is the reasoning behind collecting to many composition notebooks, and other supplies that will encourage their growth in my classroom. While I have purchased some school supplies on my own, I am not able to afford all the necessary items for my students. I have tried to compile a list of materials and supplies that may fit a range of donors, in terms of style and price. I would be most grateful for any one of those items. I hope to bring vocab foldables into the classroom through the use of the Elmer's glue sticks. Through repetitive practice, and using the terms in a variety of settings, students will be more likely to retain the terms throughout the unit. For the students in the back of the classroom, a lamp would be provide ample lighting to ensure they can read and write comfortably. A pencil sharpener is an item outside of my current budget. The hanging pockets would allow me a space to display which students are responsible for various classroom jobs. In terms of the composition notebooks, while they are the most costly of items on my wishlist they are the most important to me. In the back, students will keep a "To-Read-Next" List, of books they plan to read next. Allowing students to compile such a list removes the anxiety of finishing a book and not knowing which one to read next. Students will use the remainder as a writing space for journal prompts and intentional resources they can refer back to throughout the school year.
