The books have been a wonderful reprieve for my students during the COVID-19 driven virtual classes. I have discovered that most of the students really love "Pete the Cat" Books and the "Bad Guys" book series. It was so refreshing to hear from their parents that I had selected books that their kids love to read. These books have made it easier to develop in my students good reading habits. As inner city students, many do not have the means to purchase books and with the restrictions from COVID-19, access to the libraries have been very limited. As a result these books represent a significant opportunity for my students to have books of their own.”

This classroom project was brought to life by A Generous Donor and one other donor.

The materials will set an expectation and aid in leveling the playing field. Many of my students do not have books in their homes. During my summer check-in calls, often parents stated that they did not have in-home reading materials for their students. The books will give them places to go even though they are housebound and their favorite entertainment facilities are closed. They will become a part of their personal libraries in which I intend to embellish and expand as the year progresses. A student cannot become a proficient reader without reading, and reading is impossible without reading materials.
