  • Charged and Protected!

    Funded Dec 12, 2023

Thanks to your generous donation. My Newcomer students have chargers in class to charge their iPads given by the NYC Department of Education. I keep the chargers in school, thus the students can charge it early in the morning or during homeroom before going home.

My students use their iPads for academics, entertainment and to help them translate and learn the new language of English. Your donation is valuable because the iPads did not come with chargers and some of the students and parents do not own an apple device. Therefore, they have and iPad but not a charger.

Your donation allow them to actively interact in class, do work in class and do work at home.”

Your dedication to support the educators and the students in our Public Education System will not go unnoticed.

My students are reminded by me of how lucky they are to be in a Country and culture that values education! Your donation will keep their electronic devices provided by the NYC Dept. of Education charged and ready for them to use for translations (all my students are new or recently new in our country), and to work on apps that allow them to sharpen and learn new skills.”

  • Listening with a Purpose!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Words can not express my sincere gratitude for your time and donation, towards my project "Listening with Purpose".

Post-COVID, the work done on computer has exponentially increased. For 8th graders, this year the Math State Test will be computerized. These students have language/academic and socio-emotional supports, yet the English language have not been develop enough to be considered to be move to another class.

As the they continue moving through our academic curriculums, language is one of the most difficult barriers to bring down, for them to be prepared for High School. Your donation of earphones allow my students to listen over and over to questions to get used to the new language and Algebra vocabulary, helping to build their mathematical and algebraic foundations at their own pace. Your donation, allow me to assigned different levels of videos or supports for them. And they can use them in different classes too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

My students are getting ready to move to high school. Learning remotely involves challenges that I never imagined as an educator. They are most engaged when they are doing something exciting and with visual aids, since many of them are English language learners. This iPad and Apple Pencil will help make it easier for my students to learn online as I will be able to share my screen on it and open different apps that we use daily. I want to provide more opportunities for them to be fully engaged due to the help of visuals and step by step scaffolds that I try to provide every opportunity I have. We use several apps and extensions that aid in this such as Pear Deck, EdPuzzle, Khan Academy, IXL, Jamboard and others which I am still working on learning. However with remote, learning to see our Google meetings and sharing my screen while monitoring progress on these apps makes teaching the focus of any lesson. The iPad and Apple Pencil will allow me to show them on the iPad how to solve equations step by step using the Jamboard app before sending them off to IXL to do their work time. Solving multi-step equations using inverse operations is not easy to teach online and these tools will allow me to have the necessary tools to do just that. Having an iPad as a second screen during our online google meets will help me to be able to monitor the chat and their progress in apps like IXL. When we go into IXL and learn how to solve equations, I can see the progress they are making and use the iPad to monitor their progress while helping them in the chat room with any questions.
