My goal for my students is always to be compassionate, empathetic, and understanding above anything else. Seeing diverse characters in the books they read will help my students understand different types of people and cultures but also understand themselves. These diverse books will help my students feel valued and give them an opportunity to see themselves in what they read. Through diverse books, students will feel valued and my hope is that it will create a sense of community in my classroom. My students love reading and enjoy choosing books where they identify with the characters. I would love to add these books to the ones we currently have. I hope all my students will find a love for reading and learn acceptance and respect for both themselves and others.
