Our high school had an amazing choir about 10 years ago. Since them, no music, until the re-opening of the band program about 2 years ago. Now, during a global pandemic, I will take the responsibility to open a Choir. Why? Because I believe that music can bring a community closer than anything else, because I believe that social distancing will be less difficult to afford for these kids if they can have a musical project to work together.
Let's sing to face the difficulties!
My students need the choir, the school needs the choir, the community needs the choir. My beautiful teenagers are going through a battle. In the middle of sickness and social conflicts, they will find equality, union, and strength in music. How do I know? Because the American society already faced many battles trough music, by making that kind of music that the whole world needed to listen. Big things come through crisis, when the right people decide to sing loud.
As a teacher it will be a lifetime challenge, but it will be also a lifetime mission because being a teenager is already very difficult and uncertain. We need to keep our kids engaged in positive activities that make them feel strong, music has that power.
I want to reach each one of them using these few tablets for the ones that have no resources to afford distance learning and I want them to have their speaker to perform whenever it will be possible, in the patio area, if social distancing keeps us away from the auditorium.
A choir is a strong community of young people that raise many voices as one.
