Through conducting my OT teletherapy sessions, I am able to see how dire the situations are at my student's homes, many coming from low income families that do not have even the most basic supplies (ie paper, pencils, glue, scissors) let alone supplemental supplies (visual motor worksheets, kinesthetic learning / sensory materials) within their homes. Without these supplies they are struggling to complete both their OT work as well as any other class work/homework, which is leading to an overall regression of skills. I am requesting materials for my students to help to maintain and even progress upon skills in every category, by mirroring their school-learning environment at home as much as possible. My students need a sense of normalcy and a progression of skills during these times of fear, seclusion and uncertainty. A good start would be to get them the supplies they need! With this project funded, my students would have all the materials they need for writing (small pencils for grasp & pencil sharpener, lined paper, slant board for positioning, kinesthetic materials for learning letter formation), supplies for fine motor projects (construction paper, glue, scissor, crayons, paint, colored pencils, tweezers), supplies for hand strengthening/stress relief (playdoh, squishy toy), complete with a colorful caddy to store/organize their materials that they can “grab-and-go” independently for practice on their own or for sessions! This project will also include getting each student a therapy ball (complete with a pump, strengthening squig toys) to provide each child with the sensory input they are currently not receiving at home, provide an opportunity to work on gross motor / fine motor strength. Also Lastly this ball has the capacity to be used as an alternative seating for the child (many of my students work on the floor).
