These books that I desire to add to my classroom library are intended to be mentor texts used in my instruction as well as for my students to enjoy listening to and reading. My students have a strong desire to read and they love and cherish new books because they are so thankful for the many unique stories that they get to listen to. I integrate picture books into my weekly lesson plans to create a more authentic learning experience for my students. Each of the books I have chosen, relate to my student's lives or real-life learning experiences such as things they have encountered or may encounter in the future.
When teaching new content, it is important to provide learning experiences that are engaging and authentic. I have chosen to add a variety of wonderful books below; many that have literacy components that are important to teach with a mentor text, some that can be mentor texts for student writing, some that focus on friendships, and many that focus on kindness and diversity. Yet, with every single one I know that I can create engaging, important, and authentic lesson plans that will encourage students to learn and will help them to understand many lifelong lessons that will carry them through school and into adulthood. In my classroom, I create a loving, nurturing, and supportive class family with that comes many questions about diversity and kindness as well as content knowledge. I believe that these mentor texts will help me to answer questions for my students and will be very powerful in the teaching and learning process. These books will help me to teach the content that is needed for my students; furthermore, they will also help me to support and build their social-emotional knowledge. Thank you for considering donating!
