  • Students In Need...Please Help Us Succeed!!!

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

Thank you so much for helping me to give my students what they need to be fully engaged in class. The theme of the help you've given me is ownership. When my students enter the room, they immediately take ownership over their learning by grabbing their personal folders and notebooks from the locker. They then go to their seats and take out what they'll need for the day. If they need any writing utensils, they grab it themselves and sharpen their pencils if needed. Since it's an English class, we then engage in reading and writing. Students utilize timers to realize how much time has elapsed and to track their progress in writing. The discussion cubes allow students to have choices about how to participate in discussion. Our classroom is equipped with everything my students need to succeed and I really appreciate.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marroquin

  • An English Teacher's Vision for Excellence!

    Funded Jul 27, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting my classroom. The resources you have provided for my students have helped them have uninterrupted access to the curriculum, have enabled them to stay organized, and have helped them to improve their reading/writing/speaking/language skills.

One way that we have used the resources is to incorporate a weekly growth mindset reflection into our classroom practice. The growth mindset posters that we have in the room have students regularly using language like "I will embrace challenge" and "I persevere when I am frustrated". In addition, instead of using vague language like "I improved", they can cite specific resources in the classroom like " I utilized synonyms for 'said' like 'suggested' or 'implied' " or "I utilized the drafting stage of the writing process to improve my writing skills"

My students love the vibe of the classroom, thanks to the resources y'all have provided. They always comment that our room is our favorite. It is soothing, it smells good, it's calm, and makes them feel safe. This feeling puts them in the mind frame that is necessary in order to be successful.

Feel free to view the pics of my classroom, thanks again so much!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marroquin

  • Supplies in Need, Will Help My Students Succeed!

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity with financing the supplies for my classroom. This year it was especially tough as normally in New York City we are allocated $250 to spend on supplies and this year we were told that we were not getting a single dollar. Covid did affect my family financially so I was very worried about how I was going to purchase any supplies for the upcoming school year, especially since I wanted to up my game in terms of utilizing creative supplies and methods in order to motivate my students and what I knew would be a tough year.

I used some of the supplies to set up my virtual classroom. Although I am teaching from home this year, I wanted to see him as much like I was in school as possible. One of the pictures you will see is taken from my guestroom in my house that I set up like a virtual classroom so students can have as much of a semblance of normalcy as possible.

The rest of the supplies I gave to my co-teacher who is in person and she uses them for the same reason, to make school seem as normal as possible. It is very tough for the kids to sit there by themselves with a mask on all day and the supplies make it easier for them to forget that we are in a pandemic and to make it just feel like we are in regular school. Thank you very much for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marroquin

I am in need of this order because I am constantly planning lessons/activities and then realizing that I do not have the supplies to carry them out. The items I'm most excited about ordering are the mini-notebooks. In addition to the English curriculum that I currently teach, we are embedding vocabulary and grammar into our curriculum this year to ensure students are college ready. Each student will be given a mini-notebook and I'll challenge them to collect new vocabulary and examples of grammar that we are studying! The other supplies will ensure daily opportunities/lessons can be taught thoroughly, and are not limited based on not having enough supplies, which has been my experience in the past. I don't want my students to want for anything!
