  • Write to Succeed!

    Funded Jul 12, 2020

Thank you for helping me support my students during these uncertain times. These notebooks and pencils will help my students during their blended learning, whether they are in school or at home.

Each notebook will be used for a core subject. In reading, students will use notebooks to respond to literature and jot ideas about their reading. For example during a character study unit they can discuss character traits and support the trait with text details. In writing, students will organize their thoughts and draft their ideas inside the notebooks, before moving to a published piece. During math, whether at home or in the classroom, students will work out their problems by showing the work for the problems being solved. Showing several strategies helps students monitor their thinking and lead to a successful solution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bogomolny

  • Serious Conversations About Series Books

    Funded Aug 1, 2020

I would like to thank you for giving my students an opportunity to read new and exciting books while learning many new reading skills.

These books will be used throughout the year, but especially during our series books unit of study. Students will be learning about ways series books are written, how to choose their order, who the main and secondary characters are, different character traits and how characters change throughout the different books in the series.

The variety of books and reading levels in this packet will allow my students to read books at their just right reading level, while learning the same crucial reading skills as their classmates. No child will be left behind. Thank you again for helping me add these titles to my classroom for kids to choose from.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bogomolny

Since the quarantine, students have been learning from home. It seems like returning to school in September may mean coming to class in shifts and/or studying at home some of the time. Students will need an abundance of resources, including physical books, that they will need to read in order to learn about main characters and the changes they go through over time. In order to do so, students will need to bring books home to read, so they can discuss these changes with their classmates on an online platform or once they are physically in school. I will need numerous copies of the same book in order for the students to hold group or class discussions. Providing students with a physical copy of the book will help bring ownership to their learning. They will be able to refer to the text when talking to others through an online platform or in class. Having series books will help them understand the changes main characters go through over time.
