I am a firm believer that students should read books in their classroom in which they are shown as heroes. My school has a population of almost 95% Black students, and it is critical that my library reflects that. In our classroom, students will not only learn about their ancestors as slaves, but as the scientists, doctors, teachers, and heroes that their ancestors were. With literacy as a focus in our classroom, students will use these books daily for silent reading, or classroom read alouds. With a rich classroom library, my classroom will work to love reading.
