Amidst the protesting and calls for action, I am inspired to make my classroom one that challenges systemic racism and empowers minorities. With this donation I will give my students literature that explicitly teaches the meaning of racism and how we can defeat it. I will also provide books that have examples of children of color doing amazing things. This will empower them and show ALL of my students that everyone deserves to be whoever they want to be. Some of these books will be put in my classroom library for students to read independently, while others will be integrated into meaningful lesson plans. In these lessons, the books provided will start conversations about racial inequality, implicit bias and empathy. In light of recent events, I sincerely hope you consider donating to the futures of minority children.
