  • Literacy-Based Intervention for Speech and Language Therapy!

    Funded Aug 27, 2021

Thank you so much for funding the classroom library. My students can now choose a book of their interest and take that book home. I am able to offer my students a literacy based intervention approach. This is a natural and easy way to address vocabulary, story components and higher-level thinking activities. Using books in the speech room targets goals consisting of turn taking, print awareness, story grammar markers, retell, answering WH questions, inferencing/predicting, and using segmenting/blending decoding strategies.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Braverman

  • Easily Accessible Library!

    Funded Sep 10, 2021

My students and I are so happy we have a library on wheels! We are using the library to help sort out our books. They are sorted by theme e.g., Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. A specific project that has been implemented in the speech room consists of choosing a story to read from the book cart in the beginning of sessions.

My students were in shock when they saw the book shelf. They can finally see their favorite books displayed in a neat and organized manner. Many of my students have shown interest in reading due to the story covers, books they have previously read, and books their siblings have read.

The next step for my students is to sign out the books displayed on the book carts. This will allow them to read their favorite books at home.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Braverman

By using books in speech language therapy provides a focused opportunity to listen to language and practice each student's own developing speech, language, and communication skills. Books help children's speech, language, and communication skills throughout their childhood, in varying ways. Books spread our positive views and also popularize the fruits of our research and knowledge. Books are our permanent friends as they help enrich our thoughts. They inspire us to fight the odds and do great things in life. This classroom library would be utilized during speech sessions and will be provided to students to take home as well.
