Imagine being 6 years old and instead of going to school, you went to a desk, kitchen table, or even the floor in your house or apartment with a packet of paper that you had to sit and do for two-three hours a day. Now imagine sitting at that desk, table, or floor with an IPad or Laptop and being able to see and talk to your teacher, do fun interactive games, virtual scavenger hunts, listen to read-alouds, play digital games with your friends, and even go on a virtual field trip to the zoo or better yet Disneyland. Help me give my students access to the quality education they need!
Amidst a pandemic my first graders will be learning how to stretch the sounds of words, identify sight words, choose a book, and READ. They will learn the foundations of math like adding, subtracting, telling time, identifying shapes, counting money, and measuring. They will learn how to write full sentences, then paragraphs; how to write stories, opinions, and facts; how to express themselves in poetry and art. They will learn what past, present, and future means, where they are in the world, what laws are for and what being part of a democracy is. They will learn the seasons, why penguins are black and white, how bats use echolocation, how shadows form, what plants need to grow, the phases of the moon, life cycle of a butterfly (...or chickens, I haven't decided :) ) Meanwhile, my students will learn how to tie their shoes, ride a bike, how to fall and get up again, how to follow a recipe, how to swim, how to help with chores, throw and catch a baseball, and use their manners.
