My students love to work in small groups. By making their experience a special one with a unique seating arrangement (stools), they will be eager and ready to learn. The learning environment should be welcoming and fun! We use whiteboards everyday. In whole group with our warm ups, with small groups when teaching or reteaching concepts and when they want to work out problems. I find the whiteboard gives them a unique way of showing their work and many want to do the work because of the boards. These boards allow me to monitor their understanding of the concepts. Our current boards are over-used and many of the students "dream" of a new un-spoiled board. Even my reluctant learners find ways to show me their work on their own personal board. Finding some additional ways to show graphing and fractions (two concepts they struggle with) will help the students be more successful. With Covid-19, my goal is for each student to have their own supplies so sharing will not occur. Student learning and understanding is critical. My hope is to have materials to help them grow, allow them to be safe and help me to monitor their understanding. Having a quality pencil sharpener, charts for tracking their goals and celebrating successes will help students to be engaged.
