Kindness and Diversity Readers
Funded May 17, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donation to my second grade class. In my class we do reading groups. I work with a diverse group of students that have different levels of needs. I am an EL teacher, which means that I work with newcomer students from all over the world. The students are still learning about the United States and how school works here. These small groups give them a safe space to learn and grow.
Each year, we do a unit on community and community helpers. The book series that I purchased with your donation helped my students learn about different community helpers. Additionally, there were multiple sets of the books so each student had their own to read when we did group reading. In particular, the students loved the book about veterinarians and the one about dairy farms. It is clear that they love to learn about animals.
With your donations, I also purchased a diverse book set that I plan to use when we reach black history month and beyond. Some of the books were too difficult for my students so I donated them to the 5th grade teachers to read to their students. So your donations reached other parts of the school as well.”

ELearning Tools
Funded Sep 7, 2020Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the materials that I received for my distance learning project. All of the items that were purchased with your generous donation help my students learn from home each and every day. Without these materials, my students would not have the scaffolds they need to learn.
The dry erase boards boards were essential for virtual learning. Students were also given their own dry erase boards so that they could show their work in real time from home. The ten frames are used for math addition and subtraction and gives the students a strong visual for support. The vocabulary cards are excellent for students in my room who are still acquiring the English language. These cards show students the words that they need to learn from each unit.
For my next classroom project, I would like to purchase more read aloud books that have to do with current events going on around our country. These books can be used from year to year. Also, I would like to purchase materials for students for when we return to in person teaching.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kukova
This classroom project was brought to life by Kleenex® Brand and 2 other donors.Multicultural Reads
Funded Jun 7, 2020I wanted to take the time thank you all for your donation for my "Multicultural Reads" project. As a result of your generosity, I was able to purchase multiple books that were recommended by an educational consultant that specializes in recommending diverse books for teachers and their students. These books have been used for read-alouds during virtual classes.
The classrooms that I teach in are very diverse. Students' and their families come from all over the word and I wanted to ensure that they would all be represented in the literature that we read in class. Additionally, I was able to provide all 50 of the students that I work with a box of multicultural crayons so that they could represent themselves in any way they saw fit.”

Picture Bilingual Dictionaries for All
Funded May 31, 2020I wanted to take the time to thank you all for your generous donation. With this donation, I received bilingual Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese dictionaries as well as some bilingual read aloud books. These dictionaries have been useful during our virtual learning as I have been able to take pictures of the dictionaries and post them on google classroom to help scaffold our English Language Arts block as well as Social Studies.
Reading in our classroom has looked much different this year. I have had to take more time and record videos or ScreenCastify books that I have read aloud so that students are able to watch them at home and answer comprehension questions.
Many of my students are really enjoying the bilingual read aloud books because they get to hear stories in both their first language and English which helps them better comprehend what they are reading. Students also feel pride in hearing stories in their native languages. I have even had parents ask me for the title of books so that they could purchase it for their own children.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kukova
