Student Office Space
Funded Dec 31, 2024Our students feel blessed by your generosity. Their updated space has afforded them the ability to spread out and dream. They are making business plans and strategically planning how to best use the snack shack to maximize profits. The folding table has already come in handy when they need to expand outside their space to run their fundraisers. They are quite grateful not to be lugging out the bulky and heavy table from before.
We've already had a request for more of the flexible seating chairs this project purchased. There is truly a chair for everyone's needs in that space. Our student leaders will continue to learn and grow with your generous support. The development of productive student leaders takes a village and we are glad you're part of ours.”

Healthy Schools Action Plan
Funded Feb 15, 2024We have turned in our Healthy Schools application and are anxiously awaiting the final say, but I think we hit our goal of making the silver level award! The students are already pumped for next year and forming a student driven committee to get us to gold.
The students were surprised at how tasty some of those healthier options really were and some have reported they've asked their parents to begin buying healthier snacks for their homes. Our teen parent advocate was very appreciative of the literature on baby safe healthy foods. The handout now goes in all welcome kits.
This is just the beginning. I'm happy to report that I'll be taking more of a hands-off roll next year as the students begin to run our Healthy Schools program for themselves next year. This is the natural next step in generating autonomy and productive decision making in our students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 4 other donors.Healthy Positive Reinforcement for Attendance
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you for your support! The students were jazzed to see their choices as offerings during the focus group. As you can see from the slide show, over half of participants decreased their absences (regardless of excuse status).
The hardest part of the focus group, for me, was just remaining silent and writing student ideas on the poster paper. I often wanted to refute why their suggestions couldn't happen or why rules that are in place were so, but I reminded myself that these were their suggestions and I was just there to be the go between. The ideas were presented to admin and remain hanging in my office today so visitors can read what students had to say.
Food is such a simple, yet highly effective, motivator! Without your support, I don't think we would've accomplished this goal. The students are grateful that their voices were heard and that they had the opportunity to access healthy snacks.”

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 9 other donors.Basic Necessities For Stellar Students
Funded Aug 30, 2022THANK YOU!!! We've already noticed an increase in students coming down to ask for deodorant, pads, tampons, snacks, Band-Aids, and wipes (which came in handy for more than their intended use). Students know exactly were to come for these items (2 social workers, 1 counselor, and the nurse) then report back to class. This was the intended goal of this project.
Our students have been very grateful and responsible with the items donated. As we have seen classroom seat time increased, more attendance based projects have started to grow. The students helping with the attendance projects have learned about how this project worked and are assisting in the planning of the next.
Stay tuned for more projects from the students at Perry.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bright
