My group of students need to be engaged in their learning environment. Creating engaging lessons and activities help to an extent, but when students are to complete independent tasks they greatly need to find an outlet for a lot of their pent-up energy. Giving students a choice and a way to expel this intensified energy will greatly allow my unique group of students a way to focus on their work at hand in a way that will increase success in their tasks and less likely to disrupt their neighbor when they have a seating option other than a typical school chair. Research has demonstrated how effective flexible seating implementation in the classroom with keeping students engaged in their work and overall performing better with their given tasks because they can work in a way that is best for themselves. Many times we take for granted the ability to make our own day-to-day choices, including when and how we work. Shouldn't students also have the right to be comfortable and decide the best way they can keep their focus and release some distracting energy?
