Strive to Be Better and Everything Around Becomes Better Too!
Funded Sep 1, 2022Our project of, "Strive to be better and everything around you becomes better too" has impacted our classroom greatly! It has given my students a sense of responsibility, and ownership.
Many years I've tried to stress it was the student's responsibility to keep our classroom clean, yet didn't have the materials to make this happen. Now they freely move about the classroom and use cleaning and self care products when needed.
Because of your generosity we have enough to be worry free for the entire year. Thank you from the bottom of our clean, healthy hearts!”
With gratitude,

Funded Sep 8, 2020I have started, written, and rewritten this letter numerous times. I could have fluffed it up and spoke of how excited I was to receive all the boxes of wonderful books, but I would rather speak from the heart with the truth. Unknowingly, on March 11, 2020 I left my classroom and I have only returned briefly a few times since that day.
During the summer of 2020 a few of the teachers from my school decided to have a book club because of all the happenings going on in our country. We decided on the book, This Book Is Anti-Racist: 20 Lessons on How to Wake Up, Take Action, and Do The Work, by Tiffany Jewell. It opened my eyes to so much. As a white, middle aged female teacher in an urban school, with 92% of my class minorities, I always thought of myself as seeing all my students the same and not seeing colors. This I found out was the total opposite of what I should have been doing. I should have been embracing all the differences between us. This is what started my, "Endless Possibilities" project.
My hope was to fill my classroom library with books that contain a variety of diversities, different family and economic dynamics, disabilities, and all gender characters to open eyes to the uniqueness within all of us. Unfortunately, because of the COVID pandemic I will be teaching virtually until the end of April 2021, and those boxes will continue to stay packed until our return. My students and I will excitedly set up our new library with books where all are represented, where they can relate to, and be inspired by the characters within. It just may give this generation the ability to use their voices and stand up for themselves and the people around them.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting the education of our future for a better and equal world.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Perinotto
