Reading to Soothe the Soul!
Funded Mar 21, 2021Last school year, you were generous by donating materials for my classroom library. The popular children's books that you donated were used in my classroom and contributed to the enjoyment of reading and the development of literacy. These materials were requested when my students had a blended schedule. They spent some days online and others in-person. While learning in-person, the students were excited to see us use actual books. They had become accustomed to reading on their electronic devices.
This year, my little learners are still very excited about listening to stories. The books are continuously being used and the students love the stories. For example, the story "The Gruffalo" provides the students with the opportunity to discuss the setting, characters, and sequence of events. The students find the characters intriguing and are always anticipating what's next.We are forever grateful for your contribution!”

A Comfortable Seat for When We Meet
Funded Aug 4, 2020Thank you for the contributions to my classroom. When I wrote my proposal, I imagined my students having flexible seating options to meet their developmental needs. However, due to Covid-19 this school year has been different. Due to social distancing guidelines, my students were seated in rows throughout most of the school year. At the end of the school year we transitioned to sitting in groups, however, the seating arrangements were still limited and I was unable to use the materials.
As the current state of our country is changing and the anticipation for schools to return to "normal" in the fall, I do plan to use the materials in the future with my next class. As a special education teacher, I see the need for my students, especially those who require many modifications to having seating options. This will provide my students with the opportunity to engage and maintain their focus. My goal is to utilize the various learning styles of my students to increase their education outcomes with flexible seating. Your contributions will allow me to achieve this. Thank you!”

Funded Mar 16, 2021My students are amazed that people who we have not met care enough to contribute to our classroom. One of the books that we received was "The Thank You Book." Before reading this book we discussed the reasons why we say "thank you." A few of my students mentioned that we needed to say "thank you" for the books that we received. I am constantly encouraging my students to make connections between books that we read and their own lives. Mo Willems uses speech balloons in his books. I see my students incorporating this when drawing to represent their thoughts.
Due to covid, reading has changed in my classroom. The students mostly read books on the iPads. They enjoy having me read and walk around to show the pictures in the books. Even though they sit social distanced, reading brings us together. They are amazed by how many pages are actually in Mo Willems books. We read a book with over 50 pages!
You have contributed to the development of literacy in our classroom!”
