  • Tech for Teaching Our Kids Together

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

In great appreciation for your generosity in funding my Tech for Teaching Our Kids Together project, my students and I sincerely thank you. The iPad and Apple Pencil are essential tech tools that I use daily to make my distant learning instruction more effective for my students.

We just completed our first trimester and as my class begins our Thanksgiving break, we are grateful to have our iPad and Apple Pencil that make learning more engaging. I use these tech tools to demonstrate math lessons using digital applications and manipulatives. I am able to share images for vocabulary, phonics games, and reading passages instantly. I use our iPad to incorporate music, art, and interactive activities in lessons that support my students' social emotional health. It is a great tool to use to record and take pictures on our virtual field trips, to demonstrate science lessons, and to present read aloud books that enhance our learning.

Additionally, the iPad and Apple Pencil are helpful in planning and correcting assignments, as well as for sharing school and community information with parents.

Thank you for allowing us to have these tech tools in our virtual distant learning classroom”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mata

  • Marvelous Ms. M's Mathematicians

    Funded Aug 7, 2020

Thank you for your generosity and help in funding my "Marvelous Ms. M's Mathematicians" project. With your support I was able to give my students Math manipulatives, white boards, and make math aides for my students to use during distant learning.

This year we are using a new curriculum Eureka Math, where students explore numbers and problem solving in many ways. With the daily use of their white boards and dry erase markers, my students are able to follow along live lessons, problem solve, and share their thinking. The Rekenrek, math manipulatives both bought and teacher made, have made in impact in our math instruction. My students use them to apply, practice, and model their problem solving strategies while learning in Zoom. They also use their math materials while working asynchronously on assignments. As a result, their number sense and mental math skills in both addition and subtraction have improved. Teaching math concepts (place value, problem solving, composing, decomposing numbers) has been much easier and more effective since my students have these materials while learning at home.

On behalf of my students, thank you for making a difference in our learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mata

  • Camera Ready!

    Funded Jul 31, 2020

On behalf of my students, I would like to show our great appreciation for your generosity in funding my Camera Ready! project. From day one, the Aver Document Camera has made a great impact on my students remote learning and instruction.

As my class reaches 50 days of school, most of my Dual Language students have been attentive and engaged in learning. The document camera has helped me deliver a better learning experience. I am able to interact and demonstrate math lessons with manipulatives and work along with my students with their textbooks. It has been a great tool in shared writing, art, and science activities. My class really enjoys when I share images while learning new vocabulary or reading in both English and in Spanish.

In addition, this document camera has been a life saver for me while helping parents. During our Virtual Back to School, I was able to show parents how to work their children's chrome book, go over textbooks, and materials. I was also able to use it to show parents how to upload their children's work on our Schoology and Seesaw platforms.

Thank you for allowing us to have this document camera that plays an important part in our learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mata

Ending the 2019-2020 school year abruptly due to Covid-19 was extremely difficult for my students and for me. As their teacher, I had the responsibility to continue their learning and maintain their engagement in an environment no one had experienced before. From my home, I had to rethink my many years as a classroom teacher and find innovative tools to help me deliver instruction in the most effective way. When I borrowed a document camera to help me out, I noticed that my students were much more attentive to instruction and learning. My lessons became more engaging than when I was just using the small whiteboard I had at home. Having our own class document camera will help me deliver a better learning experience to my Dual Language students this coming school year. My students will be able to interact and make observations while I explain lessons, demonstrate activities with manipulatives, and work with student textbooks. This document camera will allow me to also scan and upload student work to be shared together live, or on other digital platforms like Zoom, Google Classroom and Nearpod.
