Getting Excited to Read
Funded Aug 9, 2022The students in our first grade classroom are at that point in the school year where they are beginning to feel capable of reading on their own. And, as a result are getting more excited to read a variety of books.
The bookshelves have been a great way to showcase books available in the classroom. They are always excited to see what's new on the bookshelves as I switch them out.
I switch books that complement our season, social studies and science topics. The students also like to pick a book for me to read from the shelves!!”

Funded Apr 13, 2022The kids have been really enjoying all of the hands on centers. We use them daily to practice different phonics, reading and math skills.
One of the hands-on math activities is assembling all of the numbers in order from 1-100. The kids are show proud when they figure it out and come running up to me to show off their accomplishment.
We also use the giant 100 number chart to practice our counting skills.
The students get to practice sorting words according to beginning, middle and ending sounds. We also use the many different hands-on learning to practice our sight words.”

Learning Sight Words
Funded Dec 1, 2021Thank you so much for your donation. The kids are using the sight word learning materials daily.
The magnet sight words are passed out amongst the students and then we assemble them on the board according to their vowel sounds.
The students also enjoy using the sight word clips, practicing building each sight word. They also have fun trying to match the sight words and are so excited when they find all the matches. They rush over to me and say we did it!! We rotate the various sight word materials so the students get practice in a variety of ways.”

Funded Aug 13, 2021The kids in our classroom are thrilled with all the materials we received for our art center.
The paint cups with lids and brushes have helped make it easy to keep the paint area clean and tidy. The set of tempera paints has been great to use their creativity while painting. The students have been able to compare to the world around them and make connections.
The mini stickers have been used in a variety of ways from recognition/rewards to fine motor work and even creating math stories.
The laminating pouches have been used to create resources and works that last. The disinfecting wipes have been used to keep the children safe from germs.”

Funded Aug 13, 2021The kitchen playset has been a big hit in our classroom. The children have loved playing with all the different parts of it. I have enjoyed listening to them as they give personal expression; distinguish between reality and fantasy and negotiate group interaction. This dramatic play has allowed them to discover and use expressive language. Even our more shy students have become involved.
The children have been inspired to communicate their wishes to their peers and learn to speak from the perspective of their pretend roles.
Role play with the Around Town carpet and hardwood community vehicles has helped the children learn about their community, their surrounding environment, and a variety of careers. They love using it daily.”

Funded Aug 5, 2021The rainbow counting bears and the Learning Resources Mini Motors Counting and Sorting Fun Set, is helping my students to more readily understand math concepts such as counting, grouping and sorting. This has helped boost their self-confidence and meet their counting and cardinality goals.
The mini motor activity set has definitely helped get the children excited to learn counting and sequencing. This hands on activity has helped them learn adding, subtracting and sequencing.
The 120 number board and activity mat has allowed the children to engage in discussing, investigating, creating, and discovering with other students.”
