Funded Jan 25, 2022While a few extra shelves may not seem to be such a big deal, it filled a great void in my classroom. My school is co-located and there is only one dedicated art classroom in the building , and as the newer school in the building that was not the room I was blessed with. Storage is always a challenge for art teachers especially when preparing for 200+ plus students weekly. The shelving has provided much needed organization and storage for materials and work. They are currently in use for drying over 80 clay tic tac toe games my 7th graders are making.
When the shelving first arrived I had an eager bunch of volunteers who wanted to build them for me, so we had a nice time one lunch period putting them together. The next day of course they bragged to their class mates saying "I did that" "I built those" "Ms. Felicia, mine came out the best right". Middle schoolers can be a challenge sometimes , but its nice to see that sometimes even the smallest task can help them feel accomplished.
The messy mats have also proved very useful not only for me in the art room, but for our Magnet Coordinator as well. She was able to use them for some extra-curricular , eco-friendly projects including a natural tie-dye party. The art room definitely gets messy but it is well worth it when we see the beautiful creativity of our young artists.
Thank you again for supporting me and my wonderful students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Felicia
