All of my yearbook students contribute in all aspects of yearbook design. Each year our class shares 2 cameras among approximately 32 students. During instruction, students divide up into groups, one group per camera. Instructional groups end up being about 16 students, too many for students. When students begin taking pictures, most of the class waits while students go in the field for photographs, and then return to upload the pictures. Two additional, more modern cameras would allow manageable groups during training and speed production as students get assigned to pages and products. Multiple photographers could be "in the field" at once. As they progress, students will improve in photo techniques like taking low-light photos, rich macro pictures, exciting action shots, story-telling portraits, and interacting with subjects.. Students will take these skills with them into their personal lives as well. The cameras will play many roles in the program for the students. Students will get hands-on, technical experience as they begin to create high-quality photos themselves. More and newer cameras will enhance the quality of their education, improve the photography in the yearbook, and simplify procedures for learning photography in the classroom.
