These magazines will help my students develop map skills, reading skills, critical thinking skills, and help them foster a love for Social Studies and Reading. The Scholastic News Magazine gives our class a variety of Social Studies content that is relevant to today’s world. I feel it is so important for the students to see other perspectives that they can relate to that are not always found in textbooks. Our current Social Studies curriculum is from 1992. Storyworks provides thought provoking reading material in every genre and it excites my students about reading. This curriculum introduces many topics and people that have been so pertinent to shaping our world but are not always covered in mainstream media. Scholastic provides digital copies with each paper subscription. I will be able to provide quality materials to my students whether I am teaching remotely on Google Meets, using a hybrid model, or if we are all back in the classroom together.
