Capturing Art at Martinez
Funded Nov 2, 2017My students and I are beyond grateful for your generosity. They really enjoy learning how to use cameras during photography club. The cameras are helping them capture memorable moments as they learn how to manipulate and learn the parts of each camera.
They are really excited to use the Canon EOS T6i creating high quality photos and videos. Some of my girls have even shown interest in blogging.
They are also learning the difference between the Polaroid and Fujifilm instant camera. They are really excited to get pictures instantly.
My girls have really warmed up to the cameras. They are using them outside of art club such as for school functions and field experiences. They are such great photographers!
Once again, thanks so much for making this learning experience memorable for my wonderful students!”

Ms. Gonzalez
Learning with Technology
Funded Nov 1, 2017Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and donating resources to my students. You have made a huge difference in their learning. My students are excited to use the headphones when they go to computer station. That was the big highlight when the boxes arrived to our classroom. Our computers did not have headphones before. Now students can listen to the audio when they work on Imagine Math or Moby Math Math programs.
The iPad has been very useful during small group instruction when students are working on basic math facts or problem solving strategies. They can manipulate the screen and type in their answers using their fingers instead of paper and pencil.
The easel pads of paper have been useful when introducing a new math concept to the students as well as for group work. They work in groups writing word problems and solving them on the pad paper.
Once again, thank you! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

Projecting Math Learning
Funded Oct 27, 2017Once again, thank you so much for being so generous to us. My students are ecstatic about having a new projector and speaker in our classroom. The new EPSON projector is bright and clear, we now see the activities much better without the lighting turning different colors or without the projector turning off and interrupting our lessons.
My students are really excited to be able to use the projector when practicing their math facts or when they are in centers to project their math activities on the white board. Everything is so colorful, clear, and bright!
With our new speaker, now we can listen to the videos or PowerPoint presentations so that has been very exciting. I must say that all my students have warmed up to this technology. I see their excitement and happiness when learning Math!!”

Mathematicians Materials Needed
Funded Oct 2, 2017My students are using the carpet and manipulatives during direct instruction as well as during workstation time. When I introduce a new concept the students gather around and sit on the carpet for direct instruction. They also use the carpet during their "Math with Someone" workstation time.
They really love the carpet! They were extremely excited to sit on it when it first arrived to our classroom. Some of the students shouted, "we won't have to sit on the cold floor anymore!" I'm excited for them as well! I'm impressed with how engaging they've become!
My students come to school eager to learn and they will continue to be successful as they learn to use the math magnetic library that was donated. We recently learned place value and decimals so using the magnetic money will help them tremendously! Thanks again for your generosity!”

Differentiate Math Using Technology
Funded Jan 30, 2017Thanks so much for your generosity! Your donation has made a huge impact on my students. The chromebooks are being used to work on several online math programs. Piney Point Elementary is currently serving as a pilot school for a program called Splash Math and our students are benefiting so much and learning math skills daily. The program is online therefore the computers are used in a small group differentiated setting. Usually students either partner up using one Chromebook and working together to solve mathematical problems to gain math fluency or they work independently.
When students use the Chromebooks, they are excited to see they have touchscreens and they don't necessarily have to type in their answers, they just touch the screen to enter their answers. They enjoy using the touchscreen pad as their scratch paper.
I believe all my students have warmed up to the Chromebooks but I have several really working hard and becoming competitive as they use their Chromebooks. Brianna, Jason and Roselyn are the high achievers in this math journey. They are so excited to use the technology.”

Ms. Gonzalez
This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and one other donor.Mathematicians Gone Technical
Funded Dec 20, 2016Once again, thanks so much for your donation! Your donation is making an impact on my students. They are now able to work on math programs online in which they can go at their own pace. Some of the programs they use are Moby Max Math, Splash Math and Think Through Math. All these programs offer support in their native language as well as increase their mathematical skills.
One of the most exciting things is that they actually get to touchscreen their chrome books. It's fun to learn basic math facts and be able to beat the timer on the screen because they can touch the screen immediately when they know the answer to a problem. It's a fun, innovative way of working on math problem solving while using technology.
All my students love the technology, however, I feel that Sara has really loved using the chrome books, she is one of my refugee students from Afghanistan who loves math! Literally, all my students are "Mathematicians Gone Technical".”
