  • A Sweet Treat!

    Funded Apr 11, 2025

Thank you so much for the most amazing surprise-one of my most special projects being funded! The excitement my students show when the surprise of "Kona Ice" is presented to them after the end of the school year talent show is a feeling words can't describe! I am so excited to be able to share this moment with them again this year thanks to your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 3 other donors.
  • Fun in the Sun!

    Funded Apr 11, 2025

Thank you so much for your incredible kindness. We use these visors every year to not only protect our entire school body from the sun during our end of the school year events, but to also get students in the spirit of celebrating each other! At the school talent show, they will be used to show off their decorations as each grade does a dance contest! Again, thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Spring Time is in the Air (in music class!)

    Funded Mar 9, 2025

Thank you so much for your kind donation in helping us get special spring time instruments and accessories to celebrate such a wonderful season in music class! My students have been IN LOVE with singing our flower song and using our special flowers to go along with it! Additionally, we have been able to color while we listen to music with our special spring art supplies that were so graciously donated! Again, we appreciate you more than you know and are so grateful for kind people like you in this world today!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

  • Celebrating Success!

    Funded Feb 25, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in helping bring fun and exciting prizes to the students at my school. Every marking period, we hold our quarterly assemblies to celebrate the hard work our students have put fourth into the school year, and it is such an honor to be able to provide them with a little extra and to see the smiles on their faces when they have brand new fun and exciting prizes to choose from! We are so grateful for you and will put these new materials and prizes to wonderful use!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

  • Rockin' Recorder!

    Funded Feb 24, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in bringing more recorders to the music classroom. I am so grateful to not have to worry about giving each and every one of my third grade students by the end of the school year their own recorder. This is somethign they so look forward to, and I know they are so grateful as well! We cannot wait to continue learning notes and songs on the recorder as we make beautiful music throughout the remainder of the school year! Again, we are so thankful for people like you in this world!”

    Mrs. Shields

  • Violin Fun!

    Funded Feb 15, 2025

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation to our violin project for our 4th grade music class. It feels so wonderful to have these brand new violins in the classroom after so many of our violins have been through a lot over the years. My students are great team players when they have to they share and they never complain, however, they are all so excited to have their very own violins to practice on as they become the amazing musicians that they are! We apprecitae you more than you know!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

  • Germ Free Is the Way to Be!

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in your donation in helping us keep our music classroom healthy! It is sometimes hard to keep up with the necessary items my students and I need, so we really appreciate your thoughtfulness! The paper towels, hand sanitizers, lysol spray, and more have already been put to great use as we wipe down our instruments during these winter months where germs have been spreading like crazy! It has been wonderful to not have to worry about running low on such items! Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

  • Comfort in the Classroom!

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and support in such a comforting project to my students in the music classroom. I love to be able to provide a relaxing atmosphere while my students learn and our new beanbag chair has made a wonderful addition! Students were beyond thrilled to see we have a new chair as our last one had gotten pretty beat up over time! IT makes a wonderful addition to all of our cozy cushions that our rockstar of the weeks are able to enjoy in music class! Again, thank you for your generosity in such a special project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

  • Djembe All the Way!

    Funded Jan 13, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and support in such a special project for our music classroom! My students were so excited for the new additions of our djembe drums! The drums produce such great quality of sound, and students noticed the difference and were able to practice their "tone," "bass," and "slap" sounds on them. While we have a lot of smaller djembe drums that we practice on, we were able to rotate and share the new big djeme drums donated to groups as they practiced which students were thrilled about! Again, thank you for your generosity. We really appreciate you!”

  • Piano Fun!

    Funded Jan 12, 2025

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in helping us bring a new rockjam keyboard piano the music classroom! Some of our instruments are pretty old, so having a brand new keyboard in the classroom is pretty exciting for my students! We will put it to amazing use as we learn to play the piano in fifth grade music! Students are currently preparing for parents to come in to hear their hard work, and the addition of this new piano will make it all the more exciting! Again, thank you for this incredible act of kindness! We appreciate you more than you know!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shields

While teaching music online, it'd be great to continue learning different instruments with my second graders. While trying to think of an instrument that is "small" and "compact," I thought of the pan flute which was first created in ancient Greece. While we were still in school, students were learning about the "Djembe," which is an African American drum, so therefore it would be incredible to continue learning about instruments from around the world. Whenever students are given the opportunity to learn a new instrument, they light up with excitement. I would love to be able to continue to provide that excitement even while we are in this crazy time in life and school is done online. Even if we can't receive materials and begin this project before the end of this school year, I am hoping that we will return to a "normal" school environment next year and we can then learn the pan flute together in person.
