Sensational Story Selections With Storyworks 3
Funded Jun 4, 2024It is with great excitement that I write this letter of thanks for your contribution to the class set of Scholastic StoryWorks 3! My school district recently adopted a new reading program that provides excellent structure and routine. However, this new program is missing the student engagement that my former students enjoyed by using StoryWorks 3. While we use the new reading program almost daily, our StoryWorks 3 helps to bridge the gap from some of the important reading skills to the love of reading!
This magazine is also the perfect tool to leave for those unexpected days when a substitute is needed. StoryWorks 3 is user-friendly and will keep those students engaged with various activities related to the text-rich stories.
The subscription benefits all reading levels as the high-interest stories are differentiated by level. StoryWorks 3 is a monthly subscription that includes all genres of text and opportunities for interaction. Students will ask if we can use StoryWorks 3 during our "Fun Fridays". Yes, students are asking to read on the "fun" days! That says it all!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bannon

Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you very much for helping my students and myself get the supplies we needed to help us get through the school year. The students were so intrigued when our office staff started to deliver the packages of items. I made them wait until all the supplies had arrived before letting them open them to find out what was inside. Before they could actually open the boxes, their group had to successfully solve an Escape Room task to help review for an upcoming test!
They had no idea the prize for breaking out of the room would be opening up the packages. It was kind of like an early Christmas for all of us! Seeing the excitement of their faces was fantastic, but knowing I wouldn't need to send home more notes asking (begging) families to send in more supplies was wonderful.
Thank you again for allowing us to get some useful tools and supplies that we continue to use each day! Your donation has made a difference!”

Funded May 3, 2022Thank you so much for providing my students with these materials! Although it takes additional hours of planning to pull off a themed engagement activity, it is well worth it to see the look on the students faces as they enter the classroom. The materials came in with only a few weeks left of the school year last year so this year's current students will really be able to get the full benefit of the classroom transformations.
Students used the camping flashlights for Flashlight Friday reading and loved the new look of what reading could be like. It happened to be pajama day in our school as well, so this added accessory fit right in. I can't wait to set up the campfire for this year's group!
Our third graders study the Revolutionary War and the significance that Massachusetts played on the events leading up to the start of the war. Our classroom was filled with controversy and drama as our "Redcoats" squared off with our "Patriots' in the Boston Tea Party and Boston Massacre using the costumes provided in this project.”

Funded Aug 23, 2020During the summer of 2020, I realized that I would have to take a different approach than I had done the previous 23 years of teaching, to get prepared for the upcoming school year. Rather than prepare my classroom with colorful tables, rugs and desk groupings, Covid-19 regulations forced me to remove the materials that I had added over the years to create a more welcoming environment for my students. When I looked at my classroom's physical appearance, I knew I would have to work even harder to create a welcoming and safe environment for my students who have been forced themselves to adjust to the unpredictable changes this virus has caused.
I thought a collection of books that focused on social-emotional learning would be one way to create that nurturing environment. Through the use of these books, my class has been able to make connections with characters, predict outcomes based on character's decisions and behavior, and most importantly helped to foster an open dialogue between students and myself.
I decided to focus on one character building skill each week and we revisit the skills throughout the year. The students enjoy listening to the story and are asked to create a response in their "Me Journal". The students know that their journal is private, yet many choose to share their responses anyway when I ask for volunteers! I am so proud of the students' personal growth in the areas of compassion, kindness, and self-control.
Thank you to all of the donors of this project. These materials will be a permanent fixture in my classroom and future students will have a chance to explore all of the important social-emotional learning standards with the help of these books.”

Funded May 10, 2020The Teacher Pay Teacher gift cards allowed me to purchase valuable resources to use with my students. Teaching virtually from home, caused much anxiety and change to my style of teaching. The purchases I made with the gift cards, helped my students access the curriculum and allowed me to spend more time online teaching them to support their needs. Before the project was funded, I was spending most of my time, creating the lessons and slideshows. The feedback from the students and parents was positive. Their participation with the assignments continued to be high and consistent which shows the materials were engaging.
I will be able to use the resources that were purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers for years to come with new groups of students as well.”

Mrs. Bannon
