My students are from a large, urban community and have diverse backgrounds. Each of my students has unique individual special needs as a result of a disability or severe developmental delay. The majority of my classroom been diagnosed with autism, which means they may not be getting the sensory input they used to as well being away from there learning environment where we have a sensory area that includes a swing and trampoline. My students’ skill set ranges from toddler to kindergarten with some kids not even speaking yet while a few are already reading. Not being able to attend school makes it incredibly difficult for parents to keep students engaged and motivated even with the paper enrichment packet because most them are at the scribbling stage and online resources and technology (online games, google classroom, Chromebook) provided they need a variety of hands-on manipulatives to practice enhancing developmental and academic skills; which are insanely expensive. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to such supplies in their homes. I want to provide my students with fun and interesting hands-on materials that promote learning and provide sensory relief for them at home. If I get chosen to fulfill my project I will be able to distribute some materials to my students to help them during the school closure by expanding their opportunities to learn and have some sensory relief in more appealing ways, which they are used to in the school environment. Please, help me put a smile on my students' face as I am their voice.
