Please consider supporting the sensory station for my students! Research supports the use of a sensory station in classrooms to help encourage students to self-regulate their emotions. When students are angry, upset, stressed, or overwhelmed they will ask to visit the sensory station to take the time to play with the sensory items. Students will be able to access the sensing part of their brains by manipulating the sensory toys in the sensory station. This is a research-based classroom intervention that improves student success. The sensory station will serve all of the 550 students in my school when they visit the counselor's classroom, as well as become a model for the rest of the school's classrooms to follow. Sensory stations used in classrooms have been proven to reduce discipline incidents, reduce stress, increase a student's ability to control their emotions, and increase a student's academic achievement. When my students are having trouble controlling their emotions they will be able to visit the sensory station to help them regain control and return to participating in class. The ultimate goal of the project is to teach students how to self-regulate their emotions to be successful in school and life. Please help me help my students learn one of the most critical skills in becoming a happy and successful adult by giving them the tools to aid in effectively regulating their emotions.
