Second grade math concepts rely heavily on prior knowledge and build upon skills throughout the year. In our math modules, there are many worksheets. However, my students learn best when they have materials to move around and use as representations of parts of a math concept. From physically moving the hands on a clock, to bundling ones to make a new ten, learning comes to life with every opportunity that students have to manipulate objects and create real life models. Students will use the manipulatives during a guided math model both when working with a teacher and independently at a skill-specific center.
