Learning to Read in English is Exciting!

Many many thanks for your generous contribution to fund this project for my students. My students are kindergarten and first grade students who are learning English AND all content areas simultaneously. We spend most of everyday acting with urgency, teaching students letter sounds, spelling patterns, and how to sound out words part by part. We use specific curriculum designed to target these specific decoding skills.

When we are able to step back from that and put actual authentic and engaging texts in our students hands it is magical. They LOVE using the decoding skills we taught them to help get through actual texts, and they absolutely love the idea of sitting with a book to learn and laugh along with the illustrations.

Pete the Cat and Elephant and Piggie are some of my favorites to read aloud to my students and your generous contribution allows us to share in those exciting moments revolving around engaging text and truly create a love of reading while expanding on our English language.”
