Because the courses I teach are dual enrollment mathematics courses, it is necessary that my students become proficient in the use of a graphing calculator. It is possible to take these courses using a non-graphing calculator but once these students start dealing with parabolas and other functions graphing calculators can be invaluable tools. The ability to confidently use these graphing calculators generates certainty in my students that facilitates course success. Typically, my class is the first college course to which these kids are exposed, and I want to provide them every opportunity to be successful.
