High School Dissection - a Cut Above the Rest!

Funded Oct 1, 2021

I am incredibly grateful for your donations and how much you care! I was able to secure enough sheep eyes and brains to dissect not only in my originally planned 3 Advanced Placement Psychology Classes but also in my 2 Inter-Baccalaureate Psychology Classes.

The students were amazed at how small the sheep brains were. Many of them had never experienced dissection before. Those that had not were surprised at how strong the fixing solution smelled. Students were incredibly excited to see the lobes of the brain and cutting the hemispheres in half. They were able to locate the medulla, the cerebellum, and the pons. They were able to see the ventricles and we discussed their size comparative to the human brain. We also were able to see neurons close up. I feel this was the most significant part of the dissection. The students marvelled at how such small bundles of nerves could do so much for us. A lot of students shared that the experience sparked an interest in medicine and neurosurgery. Thank you for helping me to provide this enriching experiences to my students at Coral Reef Senior High School.”

With gratitude,
