Thank you so much for funding this project. I know that my students will really enjoy reading and learning from these very engaging magazines, like in the past years. Thank you for helping me support my students grow as readers and becoming more aware of the world around them. I can’t wait to use these magazines in the classroom and getting some interesting conversations started! Thank you for your generosity once again!”

  • Spark Curiosity With Scholastic Storyworks!

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you for choosing to donate to my classroom this past year. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to express my gratitude for the gifts you have provided to my students and I by sharing some of the work we have accomplished this year using your resources.

I had one prominent goal this year for my class; create an environment that allows students to enjoy learning. I requested a set of Scholastic magazines for each student in order to support their learning through timely articles. This also allowed my students to do independent research according to their academic interests because of the variety of articles available. Please refer to the pictures provided to understand their learning.

I began my lessons with the magazines by choosing an article that paired up well with the reading skill that I was teaching that week. For example, if the students were learning about problem and solution, I chose an article from the Scholastic magazine which included that skill. We would then review the vocabulary words, watch the related video and read the article together. After reading the article twice, students would pair up with their partners and identify the problem and solution in the article. This way, the magazine not only provided students with opportunities to engage with grade level content, but also reinforced important reading skills. I've also used the worksheets that are Common Core aligned in order to challenge students and test reading comprehension.

In addition, their general curiosities based upon what we read in Scholastic sources has been so heartwarming to experience. Students would often chose topics of interest from the magazines to research, either independently or in partnership, and share their findings with their classmates. I am confident that my students graduated 4th grade as confident and successful readers.

I have seen my students grow academically to become inquisitive and thoughtful learners. My ESL students, who were nervous to speak and share, became some of my most outspoken students. I believe that my students will leave 4th grade with an interest in learning and exploring because of the resource you have provided to our class with your donations. Please accept my sincere thanks on behalf of my classroom and my school. The 4th grade was a better year because of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bindra

I can picture the excitement on their faces. Thank you for making this possible.”

I am a special education teacher in a Title 1 school. I have 19 wonderful and kind students in my classroom, who are curious and caring. My class comprises of students with special needs as well as English as a second language learners. While resources can be limited, I want my students to understand that our surroundings and situations don't determine our outcomes in life. I want them to know that they can achieve anything that they set their minds to. As a teacher I aspire to help my students become great learners and thoughtful citizens. As Rabindranath Tagore once said, "The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence."
