My campus implements AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a college readiness program that provides the students with strategies that will aid in their academic success. Organization is one of the strategies focused on in AVID. Organization helps the students establish and keep a routine. When the students know that our items belong in a certain place, they will be able to find the materials easily needed to be successful in the classroom. An organized room provides a positive and clean learning environment. I have a partner teacher, which means I will 2 sets of classes in my room with a combined total of 38-42 children. However, I only have one set of cubbies in my classroom for students to store their materials. Each cubby slot will hold 2 different sets of student materials. I have asked for storage bins for my cubbies to help keep the students' learning materials separate, organized and always in the same place. This will allow the materials to be easily and quickly accessible, which in turn maximizes learning time in my classroom. I have also asked for pencil pouches for my students to keep their materials in. This will help ensure that their supplies are kept together and not scattered throughout the classroom. The pencil pouches will help the students learn to be responsible for their school supplies. Lastly, I have asked for an iPad charging station. I am fortunate enough to have 7 iPads available for use. However, these do not have a proper storage place. The chargers get placed around the room which makes the Ipads scattered when they are charging. A charging station ensures that the Ipads are safe in an organized location.
