  • Learn to Do Some Tricks with These Drumsticks

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

    First I would like to thank you for your generous donations. My students are able to learn advanced percussion techniques using quality drum sticks and mallets. The students rehearse every day from 3 to 5PM. I have designed a rhythm and technique curriculum the students are using. Having new sticks motivates them to work harder and learn faster.

    They sound more like a unit or team now that all of the sticks match.

    The students were very surprised and excited when they first saw the new materials. They used them first at a football homecoming game. I fixed many drums so we would be prepared when the new stick arrived. We are looking forward to showcasing our drumline in the next pep rally and junior ring ceremony. My students once again would like to thank all donors for providing the resources to perform music and enjoy learning.

  • Triangle, Shaker, Trumpet & Bell All Students will PLAY WELL

    My students and I were thrilled to receive our instruments. We had to get a replacement item for the trumpet and ended up with a cuica. This was very fortunate because we really used the cuica and all of our instruments during Hispanic heritage month. My students learned batucada styles from Brazil using the agogo and cuica. They were extremely intrigued by this instrument as they have never seen one. Samba styles were performed with our beautiful new triangle from black swamp percussion. The African fusion in Hispanic music was made possible with our agogo and gankogui bells. We will be finishing our academic tour of Hispanic heritage music by performing with these instruments in our upcoming Hispanic Heritage Pep Rally.

    Thank you once again for making a difference in the lives of our students. They are more motivated than ever to recreate music from around the world.”

The books and materials that I am requesting will make my students better musicians, which, in turn, will make greater musical contributions to our society. How might this happen? I'm glad you asked. The book my students need, entitled "Foundations for Superior Performances", is a very comprehensive publication including every aspect of musical performance. It is sequential and "no stone is left unturned! " Warm-ups, technique, chorales, and tuning exercises are just what the doctor ordered. In order to keep my students playing at all costs, I have also included a repair kit and flip folders so our music goes wherever we go; perhaps, even to your hometown for a beautiful performance in the park.
