  • Teacher in Need of Effective Technology for Math

    Funded May 5, 2020

I cannot express how grateful I am to have had so many people reach out and donate. I was thrilled with receiving the IPad and even more excited to use it while teaching remotely. I've always have been comfortable with technology, and working remotely allowed me to use technology is a new and exciting way.

I was able to use many apps- but screen recording, a whiteboard and my math program were most important to record or share my real time animation of math problems with my class. I was able to write on my screen, my like a board in the classroom, to demonstrate how to analyze and calculate problems. This was vital as not everyone has a strong sense of math concepts and need a lot of visual representation and explanation to comprehend. I was able to meet many times with my English Language Learners and share my screen and review my lessons that they wouldn't have gotten from just watching a video or seeing an example on a page. The IPad also allowed me to jump back and forth to a translation app to translate content specific words while I was teaching lessons. Also, the fact that I was able to record the whole lesson to later share with students to review on their own proved to be extremely useful.

Even though this time has been a very difficult time- ultimately changing aspects of my students and my own daily life, this IPad eased some of the burden for my class. I want to thank all my donors and Donors Choose for helping not just me teach, but help my students learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taillie

  • Give a Girl an Educational Break

    Funded Apr 23, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to a worthy cause. Nothing excites an educator more than when a student is eager to learn. My student came new to the country, with many obstacles to get here, but it did not cease her sense of wonder and motivation. Her drive to master English was obvious is her requests for help, more work, more resources. She worked tirelessly in her studies- reading all of the level A books, B books and so on. Each level she read through, she took notes, answered questions and wrote down new vocabulary. She went from a beginner A, ending on a level G, in just 7 short months.

As the pandemic began, she needed to continue her personal goal- and technology was needed. A brand-new skill to learn- she continued to asked questions, hungry for knowledge, through all of the spring remote-learning months. After weeks of using her phone, she got an iPad from the city, but she was limited with apps she could download.

Thanks to countless, generous donors, a new computer to take her through her remaining years in our middle school. She will be able to work hard, but smart. She will literally have the world at her finger tips- and the possibilities are endless.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taillie

  • School Supplies for Fifth Graders

    Funded Sep 6, 2020

I am blown away by your generosity and I thank you for giving to a great group of kids. With your help, we were able to take some burden of my students and their parents for supplies this year.

Thanks again for allowing my classroom to run smoothly during an 'unsmooth' year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taillie

I would like to give my student a computer. She is new to America with limited resources, who deserves the advantage to participate in remote learning, but is currently at a disadvantage with lack of technology at home. I have never met a student that is so hard working, so dedicated- she never gives up trying to understand a concept in a subject new to her. She especially loves science and math (apparently studied very little of the subjects in her home country). She has so many questions, curiosities, and interests and I don't want to limit her experiences and exposure to the world around her. I see intellectual leaps in the short time we've been together- all while learning a new language. Now, she is only held back- stifled, because she can not search out where her intellectual curiosities take her to continue to grow.
