I am getting books to my kids so they can read while they are forced to stay home. They will be spending a lot of time in front of screens for the rest of the school year. I want them to get away from the screens every day and enjoy a good book.
They don't have books at home, so I will bring them! As most of my students are from Latin America, I am including many titles in Spanish as well. Reading in English is important, but so is continued development of reading skills in students' first language. I have already purchased and delivered books in Farsi, Vietnamese, French and Turkish. The kids are so excited to get a book and are writing about what they read on our class chat.
When we go back to school, these books will be returned to our English language learners' classroom libraries. The ultimate dream is that this library will be available to all of the English language learners on my school's campus, which is nearly 500 students! Your donation to this project today helps us take the first step to making this a reality.
