Make Reading Fun: Struggling Readers Can Learn Too!

Funded Apr 20, 2011

Thank you so much for your donations to my project! My students are now benefiting greatly from your very generous donations. Students who were hesitant readers now willingly pick up books without any teacher directives. The children take books home nightly, and they choose their own books. They are no longer bored by the limited selection of books in the classroom library. Reading is a right, not a privilege, yet public school systems are severely under-funded and do not have the resources necessary to make sure every child has access to a fair and appropriate public education. Students with disabilities and english language learners are a large part of the public school system, yet the resources tailored to their needs are few. You have helped make sure that both groups of these students have access to what they need to engage in the classroom. Learning happens everywhere, but in order to make sure that that is possible, we need enough resources to make sure that our students have what they need.

You are making sure that the achievement gap is helped, at least a little bit, by your belief in my students' right to an education. Every child in the world deserves all the resources to learn, but urban public school students are often the least resourced and the most over-represented population in student counts. You have made sure that my students are able to get one step closer to their grade level goals. Thank you for that. ”

With gratitude,

Ms. Diaz
