The Writing Revolution Book Club
Funded Sep 22, 2023As a teacher, I have always been a "book person" and deeply passionate about reading and writing. I enjoy highlighting essential passages and taking notes in the margins as I read. Most of my reading is done at home, but I encourage my students to read in the classroom during their free time.
Through this project, my students have been introduced to new texts that have helped them develop essential writing skills. These new texts have taught them how to organize their thoughts and ideas, write with clarity, and communicate more effectively. The Writing Revolution has provided me with a clear and effective method of instruction that has helped me turn weak writers into strong communicators.
One of my favorite classroom moments was when I saw one of my struggling students write a coherent and well-structured essay. Seeing my students' progress has been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to implement The Writing Revolution in my classroom.
Overall, this project has elevated my teaching and has had a significant impact on my students. It has helped them develop essential skills that they will use throughout their academic and professional careers. I appreciate your support in making this possible.”

Funded May 9, 2023As an educator, I am a huge fan of books and reading. I usually highlight essential passages or sections that I find particularly noteworthy, and I enjoy reading in a quiet and peaceful environment where I can focus on the content.
Through my professional experience and participation in various professional development programs, I have been introduced to new texts that have helped me develop valuable skills and lessons to bring to my classroom. For example, I have attended a program on culturally and historically responsive education, which taught me how to teach skill development, identity development, intellectualism, and criticality to students. I have also participated in professional development sessions related to the history and experiences of people in the African Diaspora and the history and cultures of African Americans and African peoples throughout the Diaspora. These programs have enriched my teaching style and have allowed me to impart new knowledge and perspectives to my students.
One of my favorite classroom moments occurred when I saw my students engage in a passionate discussion about the impact of the African Diaspora on the world. It was a proud moment for me because I knew that the lessons and concepts we had been discussing had resonated with them. The project we were working on had encouraged them to think critically about the world and its history, and they had been able to apply their newfound knowledge to the discussion. It indicated that they were learning and growing, and it was a testament to the power of effective teaching.”

Funded Feb 9, 2023I will tell you the impact of our project by telling what my student Jaiden said in a note:
"Using candy to simulate capitalism was not only fun but also very informative. It taught us how the government works and not everyone is treated fairly. Everyone had fun while also learning. Ms. E did an amazing job at teaching her class and making sure we were engaged and having fun." Joy is a radical choice we must make to engage our students. They are older but still need little treats to help them learn their lessons.”

Funded Nov 30, 2022I am a global history teacher, so we will often use these globes. The Global History and Geography Regents is the Examination is an exam my students will be taking. Today my students analyzed how Age Exploration Changed the world. The students were genuinely very excited about using the globes. Even my colleagues were excited to see the students using the globes. Honestly, I did the project because my students lacked geography skills, but they enjoyed the interactive features of the globes. I picked the globe model because of the interactive part. They asked if we could use the globes every day.
We have embraced joy even more after attending Gholdy Muhammad's professional development workshop. She adds a fifth pursuit joy to her groundbreaking education framework. Dr. Muhammad shows how joy, which is rooted in the cultural and historical realities of Black students, can enhance our efforts to cultivate identity, skills, intellect, and criticality. According to Dr. Muhammad, joy gives students a powerful purpose to learn and contribute to the world. My student Tyfanny thought it was super fun to have the globes. She liked that it was hands-on lessons and it looked at the actual country.
The next step is to have the globes accessible at all times so the students can use them as a reference, and eventually they can internalize this geographic knowledge”

Funded Mar 23, 2020There are not enough words to express my joy, gratitude, and thanks for your generous donations to my class project. My students and I are so very appreciative of your support for education and creative, hands-on techniques for learning.
