Board Books Brew Best Behavior
Funded Nov 23, 2020We recently opened our school for in-person classes and these books are heaven-sent! I teach a preschool special education class and, due to the pandemic, some of our students have never even been to a school before. Being in the classroom was definitely a brand-new experience!
My project, Board Books Brew Best Behavior, was instrumental in guiding our class, new and returning students alike, throughout the transition from staying at home for more than a year to being in a classroom with other children and adults. As expected, most of our students struggled with this tremendous change in their routine. We all needed to learn how to relate and interact with each other in the classroom.
Young children are usually impulsive and they tend to express themselves using their body instead of words. Reading the book, "Hands Are Not For Hitting," benefitted our students who need extra support in regulating their emotions and expressing their feelings.
The book, "Worries Are Not Forever," was valuable in assuaging a three-year-old student's heart-wrenching cries for mommy throughout the school day. Now, he enjoys looking at the book during meal time and reassures himself by saying, "Mommy is coming back."
Since this pandemic is not yet completely over, the book, "Germs Are Not For Sharing," continues to be our new best friend and helps the students remember proper hygiene practices that are critical in the classroom.
Thank you very much for your generous donation to our project. Our class and the rest of our school appreciate your support in the growth of the social emotional well-being of our students. As we gradually open up all the classrooms in our school, more and more students will also benefit from these board books --- brewing best behavior for years to come. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Neail
