Since March 2020, I have been teaching my preschool special education students virtually and parents have shared that their children are either regressing to previous challenging behaviors or developing new challenging behaviors. At a time when adults are barely coping with the stress of a global pandemic, how much more are our young children struggling to deal with in their upended lives? Children learn best through concrete examples with visual support. These books offer a glimpse of how children deal with stress and provide specific strategies to cope with these challenges. This pandemic has wreaked havoc on the social-emotional development of our young learners and I want to equip them with the knowledge and skills to overcome these difficulties. The board books contain tips that are beneficial for parents and teachers alike. I plan to use them during our virtual classes and share the strategies with the parents during parent-teacher conferences and back-to-school night. When our school opens for physical classes, I plan to share these books with my co-teachers through our teacher lending library. Some of these books will also be available for children to peruse at any time in the classroom, especially while taking a break in our Calm-Down Corner.
