My SAS students are part of a BioMedical pathway at my school. They are interested in anatomy, physiology, zoology, etc. You name it! We have a great time learning about the fundamentals of biology and how it shapes our world of life around us. Students love investigating through labs, making models, handling living organisms to understand how biology works. Most of my students are college bound and strive to learn about science. Students may continue to pursue the world of science in AP Biology, Physiology, Zoology, AP Chemistry, and other science courses we offer at our school. Some students can further their studies in research at our local university.
Students love dissections. They love the kinesthetic feel and experience of life. Through dissections, they can learn the inner mechanisms of our how muscular and skeletal systems work, how similar and different organisms are, and how they have evolved over time to the best optimum structure for the survival of the species. The dissections I wish to provide my students involve taking a closer look at sheep brains, hearts, frogs, and cow eyes. In addition to these specimens, I will also be providing earthworms, goldfish, meal worms and other smaller critters to aid their learning. Aside from learning about animals, dissections allow students to develop scientific skills for collaboration and critical thinking. Dissections are essential to learning high school biology. These necessary supplies will help foster their curiosity for science and further their career in the BioMedical field.
