  • Lap Desk for Learning

    Funded Sep 18, 2021

The lap desks were an invaluable asset this year! They saved us plenty of times when we had to work in unconventional areas like the auditorium due to COVID outbreaks or when I had to cover two classes at once. The students still use the lap desks if we are outside, if they want to sit away from a desk, or if they want the desk space for something else. The lap desks have become a part of my classroom as if they are just another piece of furniture. My students were super appreciative of the support, and I could not be more grateful!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McNeil

  • Biology Virtual Labs

    Funded Nov 29, 2020

After a year of requesting access, I was able to get the middle school lab for our middle school students! Currently, we are utilizing the lab every Tuesday and the other grades will be using the lab on other days. The microscope is going to be a great addition to the lab and give us the opportunity to analyze some unique cell slides! My goal is to increase the number of cell slides that are in the lab to be utilized with the microscope. The scholars seemed to be excited about using the microscope but more importantly, they were excited about doing activities in the lab! We were not able to use the microscope digitally due to the need for some extra parts and slides to make that work but as soon as I am able to I will upload some photos for you all to see.

Currently, in science, we are going to observe goldfish in 10 fish bowls over the course of two weeks. We are going to observe what happens when we change water parameters and feeding habits. I already got the fishbowls and now I need to just add the fish when we return to the building. I am hoping that will all be ready by Wednesday. I think the students will be super excited to do this activity. Here is to a great year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McNeil

One of the most difficult issues we have experienced in science is how to bring the labs home for the students. In biology, scholars need to experience working with slides, looking at cells, and seeing cellular processes like mitosis in action. They need to see the fun aspect of science and have something to look forward to in their future learning when they get back to a real classroom and lab. This equipment will enable me to have interactive lessons with the students. We will be able to discover and explore microscopic slides together virtually as if we were in a physical classroom looking through a lense.
