  • Big Books for Big Kids

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books for my special education classroom!

It was so sweet of you to think of us!

The more students read - the better readers they become. Thank you for providing some high interest and quality books for our classroom. You are AWESOME!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kmak

  • The Wonderful World of Reading!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom! The books I had were old and crumbling. It is so exciting to know I will have new books for my students this year. Thank you for making that happen. The love of reading is something I want to instill in all my students. Thank you for helping me do this!”

  • Books To Give Us Hope In The Face Of Adversity

    Funded Jan 25, 2021

THERE ARE NO WORDS! Thank you so much for donating to my project on Donor's Choose! My project was fully funded because of you! My students will each get their own copy of the book! Woo hoo! I can't wait to teach them about the Great Depression and Jazz music of the 1930's! I think it's so important for kids to understand that there have many times in history where we, as a nation, have had to persevere. They have sacrificed so much this year. I hope this book lets them see what life was like for another generation that had to endure hardships.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kmak

  • Historical Fiction in the Palm of Their Hands!

    Funded Aug 29, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I was able to buy enough books so that every student in my classroom could read "The Island of the Blue Dolphins" together while we were on Zoom. We were learning about the Native Americans of California and the book is a perfect piece of historical fiction to go along with our social-studies lessons.

The book also shows how someone can persevere during hard times. The main character is alone on an island and she befriends a wild dog. The students learned that their pets at home are there for them while they are going through this lonely time too. In no other year have my students related so much to Karana, the main character.

Your generosity means so much to me and the students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kmak

  • Real Books for Real Kids!

    Funded Aug 9, 2020

Thank you so much for funding my project! Your generosity enabled me to purchase 65 copies of the book - "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate Di Camillo. I teach three classes of 4th graders Language Arts and Social-Studies. Having a book for each student was such a wonderful way to enjoy literature together as a class.

Every day, before we left Zoom together, I would read one or two chapters of the book. It was a time for them to get cozy somewhere and enjoy the story. On Fridays, we had "Flashlight Friday" -We turned off all the lights to read the story. Some students went in their closets. It was a blast.

The book is a wonderful way to teach figurative language, sensory language, Theme, and Symbolism. The students learn that the dungeon represents darkness - evil and fear. That the light of the castle represents happiness and friendship. They learn that soup is a symbol for love. It's just a wonderful book and a great way to start the year. Thank you for making this possible for my students and myself!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kmak

My students will be on their devices - looking at a screen for hours a day. I would LOVE to provide a hard copy of book for them all to read so they don't have to look at a screen for part of their day! We will be reading The Tale of Despereaux together, as a class. It is a wonderful book to start the year off. It teaches the students about friendship, bravery and courage. There is also the theme of HOPE throughout the book, which is something so important for the students and I to latch onto right now!
