Safe and Supported Group for Girls
Funded Sep 2, 2024We've been integrating the new resources multiple Safe and Supportive Groups for Girls sessions, and one of the highlights has been using the journals and the gel pens to enhance our sessions. For example, during our recent lesson students used their journals to express handling stress. It really helped bring the lesson to life and allowed them to engage with the content in a hands-on way. One student, in particular, was able to share, which was a great moment of growth for them.
When the students first saw the materials, their excitement was palpable! They were eager to dive right in, and many commented on how the new resources looked much more engaging than what they had used before. It was clear that they felt more motivated and confident, knowing they had the tools to truly explore the topic. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and I could see how these resources have already helped them feel more empowered in their learning.
The next step for my students is to continue building on what they've learned with these resources. We'll be diving deeper into journaling and painting to further explore their. They'll be using the materials to create self-portraits and to continue to self- reflect. We're excited to see how they can apply their new knowledge and skills as they move forward with this project, and we're looking forward to more moments of growth and discovery!”

Funded Jul 2, 2020Class of 2020 experienced the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. I appreciate your donation to help our students with dorm sheets for their dorm rooms. Students were given the sheets during our curbside pick up for diplomas as additional token of appreciation.
Receiving their gifts assisted in lifting their spirits and providing a sense of relief that they didn't have to stress about gathering more funds toward furnishing their dorm rooms. They were extremely excited to receive new sheets for their dorm beds.
The next steps for our students is to fully enroll in the institution of their choice. Once they enroll, pay their housing application, and receive their room assignment they could begin decorating their rooms and garnishing their bed with their new sheets.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020We are currently offering a hybrid model at Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership, where students and parents have the option to choose whether they want to attend school virtually or for face to face instruction. Majority of our students chose to stay virtual and attend class via zoom and students are using technology more now than ever. Students have to submit their assignments on various virtual platforms, for example Google Classroom. Utilizing technology is helping students prepare for their futures by essentially being pre-exposed to online learning , if they have to take an online class in college or how to properly navigate through apps and use of the computer keyboard.
Receiving gift cards to motivate our students attend their virtual classes and submit their lessons virtually, has been an enormous contribution to students intrinsic motivation to remote learning. Being in the comforts of their own home and trying to stay focus has pose quite a challenge. The students who took initiative to attend all of their classes and submit their assignments in a timely manner has been awarded incentives to stay motivated and the students who have subsequently followed were provided incentives to stay the course of being an academic scholar, regardless of life
barriers.
Many students have expressed gratitude to receiving an incentive to help fuel their desires to be the best remote learning student they can be. Various students have told me they appreciate someone recognizing their efforts and it makes them want to perform even better academically and with their attendance. They want to be a beacon of light for their other colleagues and hope they follow their lead.”
