My students use a computer phonics program on Chromebooks for at least 20 minutes every day. Some students brought in headphones at the beginning of the year, but many of their headphones have broken and stopped working. Many students cannot afford to purchase another set of headphones for school. Unfortunately, I only have 5 pairs of headphones that I am able to let my students borrow, and that is not nearly enough for my whole class. In addition to the lack of quantity that I have, the 5 headphones that I have are ripped and are on the verge of breaking as well.
As they are working on the program, whiteboards help my students encode and decode words they are using and hearing. This helps my students develop into better readers and to develop a feeling of self-confidence in their reading skills.
