While my students love reading, they usually groan when we need to work on math skills. The curriculum is page after page, and my own resources are limited to worksheets that I get off the Internet, and a few items I have acquired through my colleagues and purchasing on my own. This project will allow me to teach concepts more effectively in my small groups, and supplement what they are learning in their general education classrooms. My students need a multi-sensory approach to learning math. Because my students have individualized needs, and there is a stronger emphasis on literacy, I do not have a curriculum for my resource room. When we work within the general education curriculum, it would be incredibly helpful to have supplemental materials to make learning fun and accessible to those who do not learn like their grade-level peers. In addition to small groups, my students will use these activities in centers which will allow me to work with more students. I want learning math to be fun and interactive, and not tedious and boring. My students are not confident math students, and I desperately want that to change! My students love to learn with their hands, so I know they will love these materials.
