Nothing Can Stop Us!
Funded Mar 6, 2020Who would have ever thought that touching books could kill you??? Since early in the pandemic and continuing now, books and other physical learning materials have to be quarantined for 3 days before touched or used by another person. The COVID 19 pandemic was (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event. As an educator in the golden age of my career, I am grateful to have lived through this experience (literally and figuratively) thus far. For children with limited family income, and often current job loss endured by their parents, access to actual books has been a challenge but a necessary luxury. While we read together on the computer for classes at this time, this necessity has left children with fewer independent practice opportunities than would be ideal.
Although I teach basic reading (decoding and fluency) and reading comprehension on the computer at this time, your books have allowed us to distribute texts to students so they can read independently at home. Hopefully, most are reading for personal enjoyment, and those who can't yet read for pleasure are practicing so they can read for fun soon.
With your help, we provided books to all the struggling special education students. Inspired by your generosity, we have continued to collect additional books through other sources and given books away to all students at our school! Your generosity has inspired a greater outpouring of blessing for our students and we could not have done it without you. Thank you again for your help during this most difficult and challenging period we are living through.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Stark

Funded Jul 28, 2020The COVID 19 pandemic was (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event. As an educator in the golden age of my career, I am grateful to have lived through this experience (literally and figuratively) thus far. During this time, both I as a special educator, as well as my students have grown tremendously in our use of technology to facilitate learning. Although hopefully, in-person classes will resume fully by the 2021-22 school year, integration of technology in education will never return to pre-pandemic practices.
One major advance which was driven by the pandemic is young students' ability to navigate educational websites and utilize technology application tools. Early on during the pandemic when this grant was written and generously funded, our and many other schools and districts did not have enough hardware devices for younger children to one-to-one access. We are so grateful that you helped us acquire more hardware so our students had access sooner rather than later and we would work to acquire essential skills during remote learning (which continues for many students at their parents' request).
Our district ultimately directed the distribution of Chromebooks to intermediate grade students and above and distributed tablets to primary students. Our students have persevered with remote learning and risen to the challenge of continuing to thrive throughout the pandemic with your help because you allowed our special education students to have access to technology promptly and that made a tremendous difference!!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Stark
