Help support Mrs. Ramirez's Classroom

Four teachers have worked together to come up with a list of high-interest book titles to use in our classrooms with small literature circle groups. We will work together and share these small group sets in all of our classes. Students will be able to sit and read a common title with a small set of classmates. They will then be able to spend class time discussing the book. Your support will enable us to hand students the books to share in a small community of readers; we the teachers can give them the time and the tools to have meaningful conversations about the readings. As English teachers we are concerned about the lack of time students are spending reading, and we are hopeful that by giving them time, a structure to dialogue, a shared peer group, and current interesting titles, that we can start to shift their reading practices. Funds for new books are almost nonexistent in our current educational system: our textbook is almost twenty years old, so breathing some new life into our reading options could make a tremendous impact to over 700 students.
